Huhtamaki is a global specialist in packaging for food and drink, dedicated to making every
consumer experience enjoyable, consistent, and safe. Its product range includes disposable tableware (such
as cups, plates, and cutlery), ice-cream containers, flexible packaging, and packaging for eggs and fruits. In the United States, Huhtamaki is best known for its Chinet® branded sturdy, yet elegant, plates and cups.
Huhtamaki North America, one
of Huhtamaki Group’s four business segments, is a leading shaped paperboard converter with annual net sales in excess of USD 1 billion. The foundation for the Group’s current business in the United States was built with the acquisitions
of Sealright, Keyes Fibre Company, and
Plastics Resource in the 1990s. Today, Huhtamaki operates 16 manufacturing units across the United States, and it has around 3,900 employees. Huhtamaki’s U.S. headquarters is located in De Soto, Kansas.
To fully leverage its global paperboard packaging expertise, as well as to boost the Group’s growth strategy, Huhtamaki has since 2011 invested more than
USD 380 million to grow its foodservice packaging and retail tableware business in the United States. The most recent major investment is the establishment of a 750,000 ft2 manufacturing and distribution unit in Goodyear, Arizona, which is expected to employ about 300 people when fully operational.
Globally, Huhtamaki operates in 34 countries and has approximately 17,400
employees in 70+ manufacturing units, serving both local and global brand owners in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, foodservice operators, fast food restaurants and cafés, and egg and fruit packers.
The Group’s annual net sales in 2016 were USD 3.2 billion. The Group has its head office in Espoo, Finland, and the parent company Huhtamäki Oyj is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki Ltd.
