The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, at 630 feet, is the tallest man-made monument in the United States. It was designed by renowned Finnish architect Eero Saarinen (1910–1961). Saarinen spent much of his adulthood in the United States running his own architectural firm. In addition to the Gateway Arch, Saarinen is well-known for designing the TWA Terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and the main terminal of the Washington Dulles International Airport.
